A.Celli Nonwovens - Demand for Masks and Gowns

news | Simone Morgantini, 30 March 2020

We publish below an extract from the prestigious Italian economic newspaper "Il Sole 24 Ore" of 22 March 2020, in which A.Celli company explains its current situation regarding the supply of machinery and processes related to the management of the non-woven fabric that will be later used for the production of products such as surgical masks and gowns.

"Before the coronavirus emergency it had four projects in its portfolio to build nonwoven production lines: now the projects have risen to 25 and are continuing to grow. This is the parable of A.Celli Nonwovens of Porcari (Lucca), a company headed by cousins Mauro and Alessandro Celli, world leader in nonwoven winder machines used for medical and healthcare applications (such as masks and hospital gowns, but also wet wipes) and in the lamination lines to bond various types of nonwoven or nonwoven with plastic film. The company has 120 employees and in 2019 reached a production value of 55.4 million (+ 15%) and a turnover of 60 million, of which 95% for export.

The demand for masks and gowns is exploding all over the world and the demand for A.Celli machines comes from both European and, above all, Chinese manufacturers. In fact, China – the Lucca-based company explains - has already started investing in this sector again, because the emergency that just passed showed production under-capacity. << the demand is so strong that now we are also thinking of producing machinery that will be stocked in the warehouse, while so far we have always been working on order with delivery times of eight to nine months >>, the Lucca-based company explains.

Production in the Lucca factory will resume in a few days, after a week of holidays decided by the property to sanitize the rooms and organize work shifts to guarantee safety measures. << We have to start again - they say - because we operate in a sector that today is strategic to face the coronavirus emergency >>"
